Altitudes Festival started in 1998
from an Exchange of exhibitions betwenn two or three theatrical
companies. Nowadays it proposes its public twelve national and
international thaeatre exhibitions, seven musical concerts, three dance
exhibitions, accomodations, ateliers and plastic arts exhibitions, one
cicle of cinema, one fashion show and one conference.
Its public is unique and heterogeneous. It´s composed by residents and
natives from the villages in Montemuro, visitors and turists from the
whole country and abroad. The public is expectant for this turning-point
of the mountainous summer. The farmer sits next to the judge, the worker
sits next to the businessman, the retired man is next to the unemployed
young man.
The companies who crossed over Altitudes, such as O Bando, Os Artistas
Unidos, O Teatro da Garagem came from large urban centres and were
delighted with a demanding, intelligent, honest and open-minded public.
Our unique criterion is quality, our unique demand is the good
exhibitions.
Variety is essential to reward the loyalty of the spectators who come
back night after night, year after year, in even larger numbers to fill
the 200 places in Espaço Montemuro. As a matter of fact the only problem
about the festival is to manage a series of full houses.
Since 2004, there is a second space besides the main hall in Espaço
Montemuro. It´s a tent, whose programming is vertiginous: plastic arts
ateliers and conferences in the afternoons and musical shows and film
projections at night. It seems that the conventional spaces cannot
enclose all the power, so the festival springs out to the streets and
barn-floors of Campo Benfeito and even to the mountain itself. |
